Summer Vacation

Summer vacation meant taking a two-day train trip to the south end of India, to the place my parents called home. It meant glorious summers filled with Cousins and Mangoes, and stunning monsoons paired with paper boats and swim lessons. It also meant crowded living rooms, loud conversations, delicious food and ghost story nights.

With each passing station, we wait impatiently, recalling memories from past trips. We are going home, where bicycle bells accompanied the arrival of days, while the fresh smell of coconut oil promised hearty food to follow.

A place of good times and better memories.

It’s a place I always return to and never truly left.

Finally, I decided to go with this view and mood. While working, I thought it would be interesting to include some human elements into the scene. However, it ended up looking crowded and distracting from the essence of the home. So I took them out and left things simple and minimal.

Here are some renders. I ended up creating quite a few views for this project because it was extremely personal and exciting for me. And also tried different lighting scenarios.

Recently I went through old family albums and got to see a twenty plus year old picture of our ancestral home. I visited the house to see and compare all the changes that have happened in recent years and collected some more photos for reference.
