The Symplegades
The image is inspired by the legend of the Argonauts. Jason, on his journey to conquer the Golden Fleece, had to pass through some dangerous rocks, the Symplegades or the Clashing Rocks.
It is said these rocks collided continuously with each other, preventing the passage of vessels and thus constituting a danger for the sailors who sailed in those waters.
The myth tells that, when the Argonauts were close to the rocks, from the prow of the ship they let go a dove. While the dove was flying, the rocks clashed. Then the Argonauts grasped the moment when the rocks moved away and managed to pass: only the end of the ship was cut off.
From then on, the Symplegades remained stationary: it was the fate that they would never move again if a ship could pass through.
I chose to represent this story because in mythology, the relationship between man and nature is a magical bond.
